Revolar Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

DATE OF LAST UPDATE: March 3, 2017

We respect your privacy. This means we seek to always be transparent about:

  • our data practices and how we keep your data safe
  • how your information is shared, and how we let you control data sharing
  • how we collect data that helps us improve our products and services

We don’t sell personally identifiable data to anyone.

Revolar designs products and services that empower users to lead more secure lives. This Privacy Policy applies to our Revolar device products (“Devices”), our website located at www.revolar.com (“Site”), the Revolar mobile application (the “App”). The Devices, Site and App are collectively referred to in this Policy as the “Revolar Service,” and by electing to use the Revolar Service you consent that we may process the data that we collect from you in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Because our business and the environment we all live in changes, this Privacy Policy may change over time, but any future changes will not affect data that was collected under a previous version of this policy. If any modifications substantially change your rights, we will provide notice on the Site and/or through the App, and we may also provide notice to you at an e-mail or other contact method you have provided to us.

If something in this policy does not make sense or if you have any questions, please contact us at help@revolar.com.

When activating a Revolar Device, you will need to download the Revolar App and provide certain information about yourself and your Revolar contacts. We use this information to personalize your use of the Revolar Device and App and allow you to access their full range of functionality. When you use the Revolar Service, we collect data such as your name, contact information, the names and contact information of your Revolar contacts, your specific location (see “Revolar Location Features” below), and for certain uses of the Revolar Service we may ask you for basic health information such as height, weight and gender, and transmit this data to Revolar. Depending on the features you use in the Revolar Service, we use your basic health data, together with data on your steps taken and the location of those steps, to provide you with information such as alternative routes, calories burned, and distances traveled. In addition, when you send alerts through the Revolar Services, your Revolar contacts receive a text and/or an e-mail with a note that you have sent the alert and a link that they can use to track your location until the alert is canceled. These messages to your Revolar contacts can be forwarded or otherwise shared by your Revolar contacts with others without our, or your, knowledge.

Revolar collects industry standard data from everyone who visits our Sites—even if you haven’t registered for the Revolar Services. This includes log data that automatically records information about your visit, such as your browser type, operating system, the URL of the page that referred you, the different actions you performed, and the IP address you used to access pages on the Site. We use this type of information to provide you with an experience that’s relevant to your location based on the IP address, to prevent Site misuse, and to ensure the Site is working properly. We also collect data from cookies. To see how we use Cookies, please read our Cookie Policy below.

When you access the App, data about your activity is transferred to our servers. This data is stored and used to provide the Revolar Service and is associated with your account. Each time you create an alert through a Device, we log data about the transmission. Some examples of the log data include the type of alerts you generate, your location data, your current Revolar contacts and their contact information, and related data that allows us to provide the Revolar Service.

Certain features, such as step tracking and routing features, of the Revolar Service provide for coordination with third party apps, software or other services. When you use these features, information from those third party apps, software or other services is shared with Revolar and collected and stored in our database to provide the Revolar Serviced. Each time such a synch occurs, we log data about the transmission, such as the time and date, device battery level, and the IP address used when synching, if any.

We do not view or store your credit card information. This is handled by our third-party payment processor. We store your name and shipping address so we can process your order through our fulfillment partner. You may also purchase a Device through the Revolar App and we collect data relating to that transaction in accordance with this paragraph.

Whenever you contact Revolar for help, we collect your name and email address along with additional information you provide in your request so that we can provide you with assistance and improve the Revolar Service. Where you contact Revolar for any other reason or through any other channel, we may collect information you provide to us in that contact. You can also contact Revolar on public forums such as Twitter or Facebook; however, we cannot maintain the privacy of your communication to us if you contact us through these channels.

To get the benefit of your Revolar Device, you will need to add Revolar contacts in your App. Revolar lets you add contacts directly from your existing contact lists. When you share information with us about your contacts to add them as a Revolar contact, we use that information to contact them in the event you initiate a Revolar alert through your Revolar device. We do not store your phone’s contact list, and, subject to retention periods set in our data retention policy, your Revolar contacts are deleted from our system after you delete them in the Revolar App. By agreeing to be a Revolar contact, each Revolar contact agrees to the provisions of this Privacy Policy as well as our Terms of Service.

The Revolar Service includes features that require the collection of specific location data. Some features of both the App and our Revolar Devices require us to collect location data like GPS signals, device sensors, Wi-Fi access points, and cell tower IDs, and/or other data that allows these features to perform as intended. We also track and collect such location and other data in the background on an on-going basis. If you are using a mapping feature, we may send this information to a third party provider to allow the full functioning of such feature and we ensure that such third parties are contractually prohibited from sharing this data with any third party beyond what is provided for in this Privacy Policy.

Revolar uses your data to provide you with the best experience possible, to help you chose your running and other routes wisely, to help you track your fitness and wellness levels, and to improve and protect the Revolar Service. Here are some examples:

  • Data and logs are used to provide you with step and other health and wellness information and to help you chose walking, running and other travel routes wisely and safely.
  • Data and logs are used as part of the Revolar Service to provide your GPS location to your Revolar contacts during the time you activate an alert until you cancel that alert.
  • Contact information is used to send you and your Revolar contacts notifications, to inform you and your Revolar contacts about new features or products we think you would be interested in. Please see “Can I Opt-out Of Receiving Revolar Emails, Text Messages or Other Communications?” for information on how you can opt-out of future communications.
  • Data and logs are also used in research to understand and improve the Revolar Device and Revolar Service; to troubleshoot the Revolar Service; to detect and protect against error, fraud or other criminal activity; and to enforce the Revolar Terms of Service.
  • De-identified data that does not identify you may be used to inform the health, safety, and/or other public communities about trends; for marketing and promotional use; or for sale to interested audiences. See “Data That Does Not Identify You (De-Identified Data)” in the next section to learn more.

You can customize certain features of the Revolar Service by adding other types of information to your account, such as personalizing your alert messages and your profile. Whenever you add this type of data, we collect it and store it in your Revolar account and in our database.

Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is data that includes a personal identifier like your name, email or address, or data that could reasonably be linked back to you. We will only share this data under the following circumstances:

  • With companies that are contractually engaged in providing us with services, such as order fulfillment, email management and credit card processing. These companies are obligated by contract to safeguard any PII they receive from us.
  • If we believe that disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation, valid legal process (e.g., subpoenas or warrants served on us), or governmental or regulatory request, to enforce or apply the Terms of Service, to protect the security or integrity of the Revolar Service, and/or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Revolar, its employees, users, or others. If we are going to release your data, we will do our best to provide you with notice in advance by email, unless we are prohibited by law or legal process from doing so.
  • We may disclose or transfer your PII in connection with the sale, merger, bankruptcy, sale of assets or reorganization of our company. We will notify you if a different company will receive your PII and the promises in this Privacy Policy will apply to your data as transferred to the new entity.

Revolar may share or sell aggregated, de-identified data that does not identify you, with partners and the public in a variety of ways, such as by providing research or reports about safety, trends, or other matters of public concern. When we provide this information, we perform appropriate procedures so that the data does not identify you and we contractually prohibit recipients of the data from re-identifying it back to you.

You can direct us to share data with other parties, and you do so when, for example, you set up Revolar contacts in the App and trigger an alert through your Revolar device or synch your Revolar data with third party apps, software or other services. Once you direct us to share your data with a third party, that data is governed by the third-party’s privacy policy or otherwise subject to use by the third party (e.g., your Revolar contacts) in their discretion. You can revoke your consent to share with the third party at any time in your Revolar App settings, by, for example, deleting a specific Revolar contact.

Revolar provides many ways for you to share data with us, other Revolar users, and the general public, such as on our Facebook page, Twitter or other social media. When you interact with us or others in these ways, you will be displaying your data based upon the visibility settings in your relevant social media account settings. Always check specific policies associated with any social media channel to understand what data will be visible to us and other users. Your posts on any Revolar message board or other widely viewable channel are visible to other users of such boards and channels.

Revolar may offer opportunities to participate in contests, giveaways and other promotions. Any data you submit in connection with these activities will be treated in accordance with this Privacy Policy, unless the rules for those offers note otherwise.

Revolar may also ask you to participate in surveys (processed by Revolar or third parties) that help us understand your use of the Revolar Service. Any PII you provide to Revolar (or supplied by you or Revolar to such third-party survey providers) in connection with these surveys will only be used in relation to that survey and as stated in this policy.

We store your PII for as long as you use the Revolar Service and, for most data, for a period of one (1) year thereafter.

You can contact us at help@revolar.com to update or correct any PII you provide to Revolar through the Site. Data that you provide to Revolar through the App can be modified in the App. Backups of your data will be maintained by Revolar in our archive servers and stored for terms provided in our data retention policies as implemented and modified from time to time.

You can deactivate your Revolar App by deleting your Revolar contacts from the App and deleting the App from your smartphone or other qualifying device. Backup copies of this data will be removed from our server based upon an automated schedule, and we currently remove and destroy most PII data after retaining it for a period of one (1) year. Revolar may continue to use your de-identified data after you deactivate your account.

The Revolar Service is not directed at persons under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any PII from children under 13. If you are aware of a user under the age of 13 using Revolar, please contact us at help@revolar.com.

Yes, you can opt-out of receiving product update notices, marketing, or other e-mail messages we may send you by unsubscribing via the “Unsubscribe” link in any Revolar e-mail. You can opt-out of receiving text messages (alerts from Revolar device users or other text messages you receive as part of the Revolar Service) by texting STOP, END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE or QUIT as a response to any such message or by contacting Revolar through any of the methods indicated below. Opting-out of these e-mails and/or text messages will not end transmission of important service-related communications that are necessary to your use of the Revolar Service.

Revolar uses a combination of technical and administrative security controls to maintain the security of your data. If you have a security-related concern, please contact help@revolar.com.

The Revolar Service is currently hosted and operated entirely in the United States and is subject to United States law. Any personal information that you provide to Revolar is being transferred to Revolar for use in the United States and will be hosted on United States servers. You consent to the transfer of your personal information to the United States. If you are accessing the Revolar Service from outside the United States, please be advised that United States law may not offer the same privacy protections as the law of your jurisdiction.

Revolar uses cookies and other technologies to improve the functionality of the Revolar Service and in other ways consistent with our Cookie Policy.

Cookies are text files that are sent by servers to web browsers and stored on your computer. They tell us which parts of the Revolar Service you’ve visited so we can figure out which promotions you may like to see or to alert you to software compatibility issues.

Web beacons and pixel tags are images embedded in a webpage or email for the purpose of measuring and analyzing usage and activity. Revolar, or third party service providers acting on our behalf, may use web beacons and pixel tags to help us analyze usage and improve our functionality.

Social media tools, like widgets and plug-ins, may be used so you can share information from Revolar or otherwise on other sites such as Facebook and Twitter. These interactive mini-programs collect your IP address, record the pages you visit on our Sites or relevant social media sites, and set cookies that will enable the widget to function properly. Your interactions with these widgets are governed by the privacy policy of the company providing them, not by Revolar’s Privacy Policy. We also use the Facebook and Twitter pixel tags to help us understand how effective our marketing is on those sites.

We don’t take a position on your use of “Do Not Track” signals, but use of such signals may impact your experience using the Revolar Service and the functionality of the Revolar Service as applied to you and the device through which you access the Revolar Service. We may modify our position on Do Not Track signals, and the functionality of the Revolar Service, as the law and policy in this area develops.

We use third-party advertising cookies to present you with opportunities to purchase Revolar products on our Site; and retargeting cookies, to present you with Revolar advertising on other websites based on your interaction on our Sites and other websites.

We use third-party data analytics platforms to improve the Revolar Service in a variety of ways.

You can email us with any questions or comments at help@revolar.com.
